Music Therapy
Services
Many of us refer to music as our therapy, but have you ever heard of Music Therapy as a healthcare profession?
It's pretty exciting stuff, especially if you ask Missy, our resident board-certified music therapist who is soon to celebrate her fifth year of practicing MT!

While River City Music offers both music lessons AND music therapy services, it is important to note the difference between the two.
-
Music lessons ultimately focus on the end product of learning an instrument, and performing on that instrument.
-
Music therapy focuses on the process: it is clinical and evidence-based, and uses music interventions to accomplish individualized goals. While the goals differ between individuals and their needs, they may include decreasing anxiety, increasing attention span, increasing emotional expression, emotion regulation, and so many more!
